It’s that time of year again and as is traditional in December the hot topic seems to be New Year’s resolutions. But instead of writing a post about why you should make resolutions or tips on sticking to them, I wanted to tell you why I’m not making New Year’s resolutions for 2016. Yep, I am suggesting that you to let yourself off the hook next year!
Year after year I have optimistically written down my resolutions, but by February they are already a distant memory. By the time it is December 31, I am rarely able to tick all the things of my resolutions list. In fact often I avoid even looking at my list all together to save the enormous guilt of not completing said list. It is about this time that my ego rears its ugly head and tells me what a failure I am and that I better write an even more amazing (read unachievable) new list of resolutions for the New Year ahead. You can see the viscous cycle that this can create!
Most of the time, we don’t stick to our resolutions because we write down something that reflects what we think we should do rather than what we actually want to do. Often they stem from a place of fear and lack, of not feeling good enough and not living in the present moment. I am not against setting goals. I think they can be beneficial when they are supported by the right intentions. It is very useful to know what you want in life and where you are heading. However, I am against engaging in this viscous cycle of guilt. I am no longer going strangle myself with a list of ‘resolutions’ which only makes me feel like crap!
My intention for 2016 is to surrender and to focus on joy. I want to focus on letting go of control of the outcome and investing more time in creating more joy in my life. I believe by focussing on bringing more joy into my life that all the things I desire will naturally flow into my life. Largely because I will be more consistently in a more positive headspace
In 2016 I am investing more time into things that bring me JOY:
- Spending more time outdoors, breathing in the fresh air and soaking in the Vitamin D
- Using my beautiful teapots to brew my favourite tea instead of saving them for a ‘rainy day’
- Reading the half-read and unread books on my book shelf
- Doing more yoga
- I am so excited to continue working my way through Gabby’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass and to be a part of the Earth Academy next year.
